   College Basketball uses halves, not quarters. I think college football has always been quarters. I don’t remember there ever being halves.

   Bob is right, I should not have used the word "always" in my description of College Basketball above. Since he is a retired official he has a lot more experience with this than I do. I have corrected my statement above. Thanks Bob.

   Although I find it a bit harsh when I read "you don’t know much about the history of college basketball". I appreciate that! Not.

   Well, I attended NCAA football games in the late 1970s and they had quarters then. So if there was ever a change it has not been recently.

   Wrong. You don’t know much about the history of college basketball. I remember when colleges played four quarters, and when they switched to halves, but unfortunately I can’t recall the year.

   At first, colleges did not use ‘periods’ in football games, but the first team to score a certain number of goals, usually six was declared the winner. When they decided to use ‘periods’, it was four.
