What is the longest losing streak by a team who won the World Series?
The year, the name of the team and the length of the losing streak. Now this is the team who WON the World Series.
The 1953 New York Yankees lost 9 straight games from June 21st to July 1st. That, I believe, is the longest losing streak within a season for a World Championship team. The same Yankee team’s longest winning streak during that season was 18 games, from May 27 through June 14.
The ‘53 Yankees final record was 99-52. And their World Series title in 1953 was their 5th in a row, the all time MLB record for most consecutive World Series titles.
Both the 1990 Cincinnati Reds and the 2006 St. Louis Cardinals lost 8 straight at one point during the season. The 2006 Cards’ longest winning streak was only 7 games, their final record was a mediocre 83-78.
The 1990 Reds’ longest winning streak was 9 games. That team finished 91-71.
Quite a number of World Series Champion teams suffered 7 game losing streaks during their title-winning seasons.
The lowest "top losing streak" that I found for a World Series Champion was 3 games, accomplished by a number of teams, particularly Yankee teams.
