I think most of the Black College Football teams really don't care, because some schools want to stay the way they are. They will continue to get a few quality athletes, but Face the Facts, The larger schools have much more to offer a quality Black Athlete. A athlete will not only have to prove himself in his division, but will have to compete in an all star game if lucky enough to make it there. Average to good athletes mostly make some sort of an All star game and the Scouts see most of them. Otherwise smaller Universities the athlete will have to walk-on and have their work cut out to earn a position, that's what its all about.
References :
no the best player go to the big schools. HBCU schools are too small or lack the funds to keep up with the SEC, USC, UTs of the world.
References :
Overall there is no competition between traditional HBCU football teams and other division 1 teams. Your best HBCU teams would be mediocre when compared with other D1 teams. The main reason is the D1 teams sre recruiting the best athletes now. Back in the 50s and 60s the best (Black) athletes were going to the black schools, especially in the south. My father played ball at a HBCU in Atlanta and he told me that back then FAMU would beat the brakes off of FSU and U of Miami on a regular basis. Every now and then you get a Jerry Rice or a Steve McNair (RIP) that will go to a HBCU but for the most part all the best athletes will go to the best programs, because the best programs can afford to have the best equipment and facilities. They get the big tv deals so the athletes will be on national tv on a regular basis, and they will be able to travel all over the country to play in the big bowl games every year.
