When are tryouts for college football and is there other ways to get on the team?
Well i was looking to go to UW Madison and i was wondering when are the tryouts to join the team and are there other ways to get in. I am a really good reciever but i want to get in. And is it a lot harder to get good grades while playing football in college. I have a 3.9 gpa right now but is it hard to get good grades and be good at football at the same time.
I walked on for my college football team my freshman year. I had written somewhere on my application that I played in high school and was interested in playing in college. The coach called me up told me I could walk on if I wanted.
Once you are accepted into college, write a letter to the coach or contact him through the athletic department. Maybe you can call or email him. But make sure you talk to the head coach. Check your school's web site for information. Most coaches welcome walk ons in the summer when they start practice.
It is harder to keep up with your grades, because college football is twice as exhausting as high school ball. Long practices and meetings.
But you can do it if you want it bad enough.
Good Luck!

Buy your own uniform and sneak into the games and slip onto the sidelines

Call the college coach and ask if you can't find it on the website.

Tryouts are usually in the spring/summer. Check the school's site for exact dates to try out. Trying out, getting recruited, and being a walk-on (joining the team to fill a slot due to injury) are your only chances of getting on the team. If you balance time for studying and practicing your grades shouldn't slip.

To play for collage football the team has to have an open campus tryout. Like Norte Dame did. The only other way is to get a scholarship for your school to specifically play football.

I actually go to UW-Madison. A friend of mine is a student athlete on the Cross Country team. There's actually this list of easy courses to take in order to stay academically eligible that I guess the University gives student athletes. It's kind of funny, but hey.
In theory, I don't think you have to be recruited to get on the team. You could walk on, but even then, I'm not sure whether or not you have to be invited to even attempt a walk on.
As far as just getting into the school… UW isn't too hard to get into if you come from Wisconsin. But it is actually pretty difficult if you are out of state. No doubt they're more lenient on the standard requirements for recruited athletes, but I'm not sure about walk-ons.
